Park Dystopia
26.9–29.10.2015

TThe project is part of a fictional archive, which addresses the history of visual culture of the 20th century. The installation resembles a labyrinth or park of abandoned monuments, in which the viewer can choose his or her route, building as a result various versions of the viewed material. Individual elements of the installation, such as information stands with images, texts and objects, videos, offer both keys and also obstacles to understanding.

The exhibited documents refer to familiar events interrelated by an unknown version of history in which the facts, names and meanings have undergone unexpected, albeit not always evident displacements and transformations. The multimedia exhibition unfolds a fragmented landscape of the “deviated temporal flow”, in which the real and the fantastic are inseparable and where events, actions, and phenomena appear as elements of a latent structure.

The “parallel history” narrative, asserting itself intermittingly in a variety of exhibits, bears resemblance both to well known historical and cultural narratives and also dream images in which the usual logic is distorted, opposites are merged and identities are dissolved. The unravelling quasi-documentary distance makes it possible to observe the role of the imaginary in the construction of historical flashbacks.

About ASI

The Agency of Singular Investigations (ASI) is a platform for exhibitions, discussions, performances and other events aimed at a rethink of the role of artistic practice in current socio-cultural processes. ASI was founded in 2014 by the artists Stanislav Shuripa and Anna Titova. Since 2015 ASI has been operating fromthe Centre of Creative Industries Fabrika.

ASI aims to explore the relations between aesthetic experience and historical conditions, and also the potential to produceartistic meaning in a public space. ASI was set up to become the platform for the development of scenariosoperating at the intersection of exhibition, seminar, discussion and presentation formats.

The events organised by ASI are dedicated to issues indicative of the current cultural and artistic environment. These key topics concern the context and impact of artistic practicein the communications society, such as the interaction between the artist and viewer, perception and discourse, visual and social, the virtual nature of images and reality of social action, aesthetic experience and various forms of knowledge.

Apocalyptological Congress
24 April – 24 May 2015

ASI opens with the presentation of a fragment of the found archive, dedicated to the organization of Apocalyptological Congress. This event, as follows from the presented documents, could be not just a turning point in the studies of the phenomena of ‘The End of the World’, i.e. apocalyptology, but also a factor of change of habitual perception of historical time. Apocalyptology as an interdisciplinary field is in the scope of interest of ASI primarily from the socio-aesthetic point of view. The documents included to the exposition show the image of contemporary apocalyptology as a discourse which is sensitive to the labyrinthine temporalities and as a combination of originally refracted elements of not only humanitarian and scientific, but also aesthetical and other forms of knowledge.

Perestroika!
31 January — 21 March 2017

In the new year the Agency of Singular Investigations plans to transition to a phase of fundamental transformations and reorganisations. This will result in the renewal of the Agency, the deepening and expansion of the range of its research activities. ASI’s decision to address the language of Perestroika’s slogans — the formulae of collective expectations, forgotten hopes and a future lost in the past — is also attributable to such structural factors.

ASI in Construction
14 September – 21 November 2016

The Agency of Singular Investigations will present an ambitious plan to build a network of Regional Branches (RB), which will commence operations in different parts of the planet in the near future. Particular attention will be paid to logistics and communications. All the Regional Branches will be connected to the general network from different types ofcommunications lines, all the way to the purely cognitive, and even experimental telepathic. Every RB of ASI will be equipped with extensive infrastructure, including access roads, parking, comfortable meeting rooms, showrooms, helipads, teleports, and small timemachines.

The public will be invited to attend apresentation of the extended network of RB of ASI, which will be heldpartly in the format of a trip around the construction site at the head office of the Agency at CCI Fabrika.

Kirill Savchenkov. Horizon Community Workshop
8 December 2015 — 8 January2016

The new work by Kirill Savchenkov Horizon Community Workshop opens a special program Survival and Imagination in which the Agency of Singular Investigations presents the most interesting projects dedicated to the description of the mental landscapes formed by cultural technologies of 'semiocapitalism'. Savchenkov is interested in the lesser known aspects of this emerging before our eyes reality: corporate ethics and the 'new spirit of capitalism' as sources of models and cognitive schemes for various systems of knowledge and activities, from cosmology to the martial arts and from the esoteric teachings to the methods of navigation in urban environments of the near future.

It is hard to define Kirill Savchenkov’s work using conventional formats; it has traits of socio-cultural research and performance, from installation and discussion platforms. To all intents and purposes, Savchenkov’s key artistic device is live speech, or language in action. Word-as-event in his practice becomes both the tool and material for the construction of scenarios, for the creation of a special aura of the “flickering presence” of the abstract in the factual, the ephemeral in the global, the irrational in the quotidian.

The project includes a series of thematic meetings that Kirill Savchenkov will conduct in the space of ASI at Centre of Creative Industries Fabrika on Thursdays and Saturdays for a month. The number of participants in each session is limited. You can register at info@asi.moscow. Please specify the date, time and name of the participant. Attendance ofall sessions is free.

About ASI

Agency of Singular Investigations is an independent space for exhibitions, discussions, performances and other activities related to the redefinition of the role of artistic practices in the current socio-cultural processes. ASI was founded in 2014 by artists Stanislav Shuripa and Anna Titova. In 2015–2017 ASI operates at CCI Fabrika (Moscow), in the workshop of production of technical papers.

These key topics are related to the contexts and effects of artistic practices in communication society, such as interactions between artist and viewer, between perception and discourse, visual and social, virtual image and the reality of social action, aesthetic experience and various forms of knowledge.

Jasmine Johnson. Third Party
15 June — 19 July 2015

As part of the Programme of Specialised Observations of Daily Life, the Agency of Singular Investigations presents a new video work by Jasmine Johnson Third Party. The artist addresses the issue of constructing subjectivity in the context of global semiocapitalism and the development of communications networks. In this fractal world woven by techniques for the distribution of images, sensations and meanings, one can forget about barriers between external and internal, documented and inexpressible means, except for cuts, intervals and gaps between the system and the subject.

Sociological description is a fitting method for such an environment, tracing as it does the chains of signs in all directions of the power lines of political and economic effectiveness. Layers, strata, cells, networks and abstractions assume a material form, rhyme and conflict with each other. The fragments reveal the habits of the daily life of the character, one of many million inhabitants of “liquid modernity”, connected by numerous threads to the global machinery of production and consumption. The more the camera assumes the feel of a documentary, the deeper the immersion in the network of signs woven from everyday reality. Here its fabric is shown in close up — symbolic threads, loops, and knots are conjugated into patterns and dissipate into waves, like gestures and glances at parties, like the mass ornaments of rhythmic movements in gyms.

In the flickering between contexts, between leisure and work, between East and West, between script and event, a perforated and composite landscape of the world system of global capitalism emerges. The tension between the global and the local, the utopian impulse and social structure, political expectations and aesthetic experience — seemingly reduces to a minimum the distance between character and spectator. Who is not familiar with this condition: to be part of the system, but at the same time not belong to it, to enjoy the smooth operation of semiotic machines, but at the same time feel their irredeemable finiteness?
